'If you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always got’
So what a cracking week, I started off gingerly following the bug I had picked up but felt better very quickly and was training like a demon in the gym. The increase in carbs had boosted my energy levels and I had much more to every workout. Sleep was better and Kitty’s cooing luckily migrated as quickly as it had arrived, I was back on track and heading goal bound like a steam train. Physically I was doing great but there had been something looming over me since the very beginning. It involved a mates leaving do and a free table with unlimited booze at Blue Marlin.
Think this was the picture the b*stards sent me whlst I was
smashing in broccoli and leathery chicken...cheers boys!

I knew that the pressure would be on, I knew I would receive about as much empathy towards my transformation project as a hungry lion towards a baby gazelle with a gammy leg. Couple that with my innate hedonistic persuasion that involves having to seize the day and do my best to live without regrets, I was under no illusion that it would be a big test for me... Sad but true but instant gratification is the norm these days.
The more I thought about it the more it dawned on me, ‘if you do what you have always done, you will get what you have always got’. Yes, I’ll have a great night, yes I’ll make some memories but I will have let myself down, I will have failed and I wasn’t prepared to do that. To get in the best shape of my life, I would have to do something that I have not yet done in my life with regard to my physique, sacrifice things I want now for what I want the most. Yes I’ve sacrificed things before but socialising is not one of them. This time I've only got three months to undo the damage of french cuisine and drastically lose fat, so it has to be done, I'm not 21 anymore either so I need all the help I can get.
A majority of my friends fit into a similar category as me as do my clients. They love socialising, they're gregarious people that work hard and need to blow off steam, so why can't they get lashed at the weekend? Well, if you're happy with your body or are 4-12% body fat then you can with no regrets. If however you are working hard during the week on losing fat but not getting the results you'd hoped for, it's probably down to the 2000kcal of piss you're throwing down your neck at the weekend...and deep down you know it.
Decisions make a person. Don’t forget the definition of insanity is doing something over and over expecting a different result...you have to ask yourself the question...is that you?
And yes personal trainers do go through the same angst as you, it’s not easy for anyone and there is no secret to fat loss. If there was it would be the ability to put things in perspective and stay focused, the rest is just a formality. You have to accept that there is no easy option, that you do have to sacrifice things to stay in shape and it will always be the same until you die, once you have accepted that the rest is a lot easier, stop looking for a magic pill, there isn’t one.
I know, I know...Halo still intact ;)
